First off, it's finally May! Get ready for a full month of great stuff here on the site. It's going to be fun!
I’m pleased to announce today that the Open Wheels website and forum is officially open for business. Although ostensibly for all open wheel racing, the site already has a very strong INDYCAR and Mazda Road to Indy base.
It can be difficult online at times for fans to be able to post about what they enjoy without continual sniping or derailments. In time, that can discourage people from taking part in the discussion. That’s not to say there shouldn’t be courteous disagreement out there, but all too often it goes the other way (I’m sure I’ve been just as guilty on occasion), and any meaningful dialogue gets snuffed out, despite the best efforts of those who would have it otherwise.
So if you’re a fan that really wants to talk about the series—not about the Split for the 800th time or stating Why We Are All Doomed in every thread, I hope you’ll join me at Open Wheels. Already, we have blogs and contributions lined up from drivers including Alex Lloyd, Anders Krohn, and many, many more. This will be a place where you can not only discuss IndyCar in a reasonably moderated setting with other IndyCar fans, but will have a chance to talk and ask questions of some of your favorite drivers and personalities as well.
As I’ve said before, we only get so many seasons of racing on this planet. The point is to enjoy them, have fun, and share what you like. There are a lot of great sites out there with good people; this is another option to try, to see if it’s a good fit for you. I’m hoping it will be.
Whether you’re a new IndyCar fan or are just looking for a fresh start in online discussion, I hope you’ll come be a part of the Open Wheels experiment. Stop by, look around, and join the forum. I'll see you over there!
